First Snow

Swooshin' Swirlin'
Slidin' Spinnin'
Skippin' Slippin'
in the snow.

I watch the inches
pile up
I start the car
and away I go

Joyride days
a winter craze
I drive sideways
through a city maze

Don't have all-wheel
so I drive by feel
like some schooner
without its keel

A wild, full sail
flyin' fish tail
sends me skiddin'
past a guard rail

Car is stuck
'til some tow truck
comes to make
an easy buck

Pulls me free
from misery
and slaps me with
a hefty fee

Then back I go
into the snow
rejoin the highway
rodeo

Lick my wounds
crank the tunes
and get back with
the other loons

Back-end forwards
front-end backwards
car's a cue ball
and this is billiards

Snow plow commin'
now I'm bummin'
hear the angel harps
a-strummin'

Car is swayin'
God, I'm prayin'
louder those old harps
are playin'

Crash, ka-boom!
I've met my doom
Next pit-stop:
a lonesome tomb

I rolled the dice
I paid the price
slide my casket
on the ice

Swooshin' Swirlin'
Slidinin' Spinnin'
Skippin' Slippin"
to the grave

Let the black dirt
pile up
another life
good sense couldn't save
